The Cucumber Lime.Spritz. (Single Serving)
- 4-5 Thin slices of cucumber (English cucumbers are best as the skin is thinner)
- 1/2 oz Fresh lime juice (about half a lime)
- 1/2 oz Simple syrup or agave nectar
- 4-6 oz Sparkling water or Club Soda
- Garnish: A fresh mint sprig or an extra cucumber ribbon
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Muddle the Base: Place the cucumber slices and the lime juice in the bottom of a sturdy glass. Use a muddler (or the back of a wooden spoon) to firmly press and twist the cucumbers. You want to bruise them enough to release their juice and scent without completely pulverizing them into a pulp.
- Sweeten: Pour in your simple syrup or agave. Give it a quick stir to combine with the lime and cucumber essence.
- Ice it Down: Fill the glass to the brim with fresh ice. Large cubes work well here to keep the drink from diluting too quickly.
- Top with Bubbles: Pour the sparkling water over the ice.
- The “Lift” Stir: Use a long spoon to gently lift the muddled cucumbers from the bottom toward the top once or twice. This distributes the flavor and creates a beautiful green-flecked look throughout the drink.
- Garnish: Take a sprig of mint, clap it between your hands to “wake up” the aroma, and tuck it into the ice next to a fresh cucumber slice.
Pro Tips for a Cafe-Style Finish
- Cucumber Ribbons: Use a vegetable peeler to slice a long, thin “ribbon” of cucumber and swirl it around the inside of the glass before adding ice. It looks incredibly professional.
- The Chill: If you want it extra refreshing, pop your glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before you start building the drink.
