A shirley temple is always our go to when ever we are having movie night, its the holidays or we want to spice up a regular tuesday night dinner. Our kids love these drinks as they of course love making it themselves so they can watch the colors blend and change. I have a 5yr, 6yr and 15yr and of course they can all pour it themselves, but sometimes to make it easier on my youngest or middle child, I’ll go ahead and pour some in a small cup for them so its premeasured and the two of them don’t have to worry its not enough or too much. Then they can add in their own sparkling water as much as they want.
I even made these for our Scream Movie dinner this year when my oldest and I kicked off the first weekend of September with a movie night. You can find our Scream Movie dinner post, to grab all the info on how we put it together and what we made. We always keep it super easy and simple with a snack board or dinner.
Shirley Temple
Ingredients
- ice
- 8 ounces lemon-lime soda (Sprite/ 7Up) you can also use ginger ale/ginger soda
- 1 ounce grenadine
- 1 or more maraschino cherries for garnishing
Directions
- Fill a glass with ice, add the grenadine over top, fill remainder with lemon lime soda – stir. Top with one or more maraschino cherries. Cheers!
Swap lemon-lime soda for ginger ale, or mix them both for a refreshing twist. Some recipes even add a splash of orange juice for extra flavor. Don’t forget the fun garnishes – maraschino cherries, orange slices, or both!
Want to take it a step further and make these for every holiday or change up the theme. You can make your own colored syrups with fruit, or purchase colored syrups. Then add in some gingerale or sprite or saparkling water just like you would with a traditional Shirley temple.
